A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
