Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Propel Together for Palestine Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A campaign is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project seeks to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely let down if it fails to, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced in the wake of a major charity concert held in late summer. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of musicians contributing to Lullaby includes a range of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the benefit event, which successfully generated a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a team of music creators. The song showcases a fusion of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the project have stated that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These donations will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the region was noted for its profound destruction, with a vast majority of buildings said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions won't make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and proving that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
