British Designer Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."
This news arrives shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including various looks for her US tour following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose influence on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
