People have gathered throughout the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, as talks advanced in the neighboring country over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel responded by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister stated on that day.

He also promised to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership postponed formal commemorations until 16 October - after the completion of the festive season - but events still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was broadcast throughout Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was observed across the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the Egyptian tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the provisions of the plan.

A high-ranking Palestinian official familiar with the discussions indicated that an late session of mediated discussions began at evening in Egypt.

The representative said the earlier meeting concluded without significant progress, amid differences over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the deal.

He noted that the discussions are "difficult and have yet to deliver any major advancement," but pointed out that mediators are striving to close the differences between the two sides.

Key Matters in Discussions

  • A lasting truce
  • The trade of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance deliveries
  • After-conflict administration of the territory

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother survived the assault on the outdoor event, where hundreds were lost their lives and many more were captured by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place feels like home anymore and until all the hostages return no one will be secure."

"After we see all home once more, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to heal," she concluded.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their backing for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty continue in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Activist a participant stated: "We must do whatever arrangement required for the captives to return. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be safe."

Research now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of Israelis prefer the conflict to finish in return for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Situation

At the location of Nova festival, mourners gathered to pay their respects.

From there, the sound of military attacks and explosions could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people said the intense Israeli shelling continued.

In the main city, bombardments were documented in the early hours of that day in the west side district, area and locality areas and in the east side area of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.

"As the evening comes, the dread arrives with it," displaced urban resident a mother, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike earlier, explained.

"My family are afraid of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, holding each other, notably my little child who places his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we monitor the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Medical Crisis

The medical facility in the urban area reported it had taken in the remains of half dozen people by the daytime, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part district.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of Khan Younis indicated another two victims had been transported. An individual was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while seeking help to the southern area, medical staff reported.
