Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
