The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get swayed by the rampant praise and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does the showrunner Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
