The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
